Pearl Harbor Cultural Tour: Ancient
History & Modern Tragedy
Ancient history and momentous modern events weave
together on this all-inclusive tour of Pearl Harbor.
Forever etched into America’s memory and the history of
the world, Pearl Harbor offers a place of learning and
remembering. It is also a place rich in ancient
Hawaiian history, legends and culture, where the voices
of the ancient Hawaiians still tell of the powerful
gods, rich waters and cultural treasures of Pu‘uloa.

Start the
morning with a
scenic, birds-eye view of Pearl Harbor and the
surrounding lands and volcanoes. Relax with a brew of
Hawaiian coffee and take in the beautiful view while learning
the fascinating geology and rich cultural history of ancient
Pu‘uloa. Listen to legends of wandering ghosts, shark
goddesses, shark-riding, “dog-men” warriors, pig-gods and more.

Visit the
memorial museum and U.S.S. Arizona. This portion of the tour is
self guided: There is a one-hour audio tour of the memorial
(optional), followed by a documentary film and a boat trip out
to the U.S.S. Arizona.
(Generally
there is a 2 to 2 1/2 hour wait from the time you receive your
free ticket to the time you enter the documentary film and board
the boat. The one-hour audio tour takes you through the museum
and scenic grounds of the Memorial.)

After a picnic
lunch provided by Hina Adventures, ascend back up into the cool
forests of the mountains overlooking Pearl Harbor for a visit to
a heiau lā‘au lapa‘au, or ancient healing temple, to
learn the Hawaiian approach to spiritual & physical healing – a
fitting end to the day.
Approximate
tour time: 7-8 hours
Price: $65
per person
(3 person
minimum)
NOTE:
Tour begins at 7 a.m. as tickets at the Memorial
are limited.
