Hawaii is home to a spectacular array of endemic species found nowhere else in the world.  Native Hawaiian plants are highly endangered and difficult to find in modern city settings, so we take you off-the-beaten path to visit cultural restoration gardens and nurseries to see rare Hawaiian flowers and species nearly extinct in the wild.  Stops also include visits to scenic parks and archaeological sites to view the Polynesian “canoe” plants, brought by the ancient Hawaiians to their new island home.

For those who want to see it all, Oahu also offers beautiful botanical gardens of tropical exotics from around the world.  Stroll among some of the most extraordinary trees and flowers on the planet, including an alluring display of orchids and the descendent of Buddha’s tree of enlightenment.

Native Hawaiian Plants Tour

Take a walk back in time to ancient Hawaii on a scenic tour of Oahu’s native Hawaiian plant gardens.  Visit the botanical restoration gardens of several sacred cultural sites while learning about the fantastic journey of Hawaii’s unique species and taking in the beautiful views.  Many of the Hawaiian flowers and plants thriving here are endangered or extinct in the wild, including several species of native hibiscus.  Also meet Hawaii’s “canoe” plants, brought by the ancient Polynesians upon their long Pacific voyages.  As you stroll the gardens, listen to the colorful legends of many plants, their cultural uses and quirky trivia.  Optional: a visit to a native Hawaiian nursery.
