Sacred Birthing-stones of the Chiefs

Set in the piko (navel) of the island these unusual stones are among the most powerful in the islands with the mana to create sacred chiefs.   This sacred site also served as an astronomical and solar observatory.

Healing Temple

Perched high in the mountains this heiau (temple) was a great healing center, tended by the kahuna la‘au lapa‘au, healer-priests.  Explore the grounds while learning about the Hawaiian concepts of spirit and kapu (tabu), the power of the gods & ancestors, and medicinal practices.  Enjoy a soothing brew of native medicinal tea.

Native Garden

Growing amidst an unusual outcrop of sacred stones is a restoration garden of native Hawaiian plants.  Hawaiian plants evolved in isolation and are some of the most unique in the world.  The ancient Hawaiians discovered a use for nearly all of them!  Hear their stories and secrets and learn how they were used in ancient healing practices while taking in the beautiful views.
